Why Coole Park

Coole Park nature reserve sits on the edge of Galway and offers something really special for anyone who wants to get outside without the intensity of serious hiking. The woodland trails here are gentle, well-maintained, and designed so you can walk at your own pace. Whether you're recovering from an injury, looking to stay active, or just want to spend time in nature with friends, these trails work for everyone. The main loop takes about 90 minutes at a comfortable pace. Most of the path is flat with just a few gentle slopes, and there's plenty of spots to rest along the way.

What People Say

"I wasn't sure I could still do real hiking. But the trails here are exactly what I needed. You go at your own pace, there's benches everywhere, and the other people are all just as keen on a good walk. I've been coming for six months now and honestly it's the best part of my week."

Maura O'Sullivan

Regular walker, 67

"My knees aren't what they were but I can still do the main loop without pain. That wouldn't be possible on steep trails. The flat sections and good rest spots make it actually enjoyable instead of a grind."

Tom Keating

Walks 2x weekly, 72

"We've started coming as a group on Tuesday mornings. It's social, it gets us moving, and we're outside instead of sitting at home. The paths are nice and we always find something different to notice — birds, trees, the way light hits the water."
